When it began...Fools pictures

This was where it all began. A simple mini-model design for the first show that Spicola directed at Chaparral and the first I designed and tech directed. Fools is a very funny farce written by Neil Simon. We got a huge turnout for the show averaging around 350 per night. That was when the shows only ran for two nights!
The buildings themselves were very cartoony, but I kept saying, in this village, they would only have idiot designers and builders anyway, so that gave us a little flexibility. I also was not used to having any sort of a budget, so I was having the students re use everything that was in stock for the flats. From this show to Fiddler there was a quantum leap in regards to overall look. Still, this was a solid start for Spicomo productions, which spanned four years and 11 productions.

This and the other two pictures below were wagons that were brought in depending on the scene.

The foreigner pictures

Here's a real cool shot of the explosion at the end of the show.

The pictures were shot on a canon GL2 which is primarily used as a video camera. Here are a few that document the set and show. Has it already been nearly a week since we finished the show? The pictures below are from rehearsals. in the window on some of the shots you can see the exit signs. we remedied that for the show by hanging muslin on light trees behind the windows, which we then lit for day and night washes. we also hung our old curtains from the catwalks to black out any light from above the set.

I haven't figured out how to move pictures around yet. the following shots show the progress the set went through.
